Percussionist and composer Luis Tabuenca was born in Zaragoza, Spain. He focuses on contemporary and experimental music. Tabuenca is also active in the international improvising music scene.

 

Luis Tabuenca has studied in Europe and in the USA with Steven Schick, Miquel Bernat, and George Elie Octors. He has taken classes with soloists of music groups such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Ensemble Recherche.

 

His compositions explore the borderlines between improvised and composed music. He has composed for solo instruments, chamber music, contemporary dance, and film documentaries. He has collaborated with dancers, composers, and visual artists.

 

As an educator, Tabuenca is regularly invited to give lectures and workshops at universities and cultural institutions around the world. In 2014, he was Artist in Residence at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, New York University, NY.
